The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry officially opened the Global
Academy in Hayes in support of Heads Together.
The Global Academy is a free state school offering students aged 14 – 19 the chance to learn the skills for a career in media alongside their GCSE and A Levels. As a University Technical College (UTC), students learn specialist skills in a range of areas in the media from app development to studio engineering and programming. Students are taught the hands-on skills needed to work in the broadcast and digital media all in our state of the art surroundings on the site of the Old Vinyl Factory in the heart of Hayes. The school, founded and sponsored by Global, had its first intake of 163 students in 2016. By 2020, the Global Academy will teach 800 students every year.
During the visit, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry visited classrooms where students were learning about the science of sound, working on a mental wellbeing project, and an audio project using material from EMI’s archives including vinyl recordings of early speeches of the Royal Family.
Bulldog Power gives real life industry experience to students at The Global Academy and sponsors events.
